Plan an Old Fashioned Indiana 4th of July Picnic

Would you like to do something special this year for the 4th? I’d kind of like to head to the beach! But since there aren’t a lot of beaches here, why not do something special…the Indiana way?

Have an Old Fashioned 4th of July Picnic. It’s a great way to get together with friends, family and neighbors. But it doesn’t need to be fancy, in fact, if it were fancy it wouldn’t be truly old fashioned.

Start with a simple menu. Grilled hot dogs or hamburgers, (fried chicken is good too), potato salad, fruit bowl and maybe some corn on the cob. How about some cupcakes with red white and blue icing for dessert?

And if you’d like something really spectacular to go along with those cupcakes, why not make some home made ice cream? Remember when you were small? How impatient you would be waiting for the ice cream to finally get done?

Drinks can be easy too. Skip the sodas for the day. How about lemon shake ups? Ok….they’re a little more work, but nothing tastes as good on a hot summer day.

If you’d like to offer some games for kids, try old fashioned relay games. But get the adults involved too. That will make it twice as much fun! Try egg toss, balloon squash, and 3 legged races. If you’d like something a little easier, don’t forget cornhole games. Everyone loves cornhole!

Do you need something to cool everyone off? Why not a basic sprinkler for the kids to play in? If you’d like to spend a little more money, pick up some super soakers and the kids will have a blast.

Of course if you’d like to make your old fashioned picnic more like an old fashioned country fair, you can add in some other items: moonbounces, cotton candy and snow cones, water slides and even some mechanical rides.
